WaterSafe Webinar Helps Home and Business Owners with Plumbing Problems during Covid-19

WaterSafe, the UK register of approved plumbers, hosted a webinar for home and business owners in Wales to help them prevent plumbing problems and protect the quality of their drinking water.

With Covid-19 restrictions easing, the webinar also aimed to clarify the latest Government guidelines for plumbers and customers on how they can work safely in customers’ homes.

The webinar, which took place on Thursday 28 May, featured a panel including WaterSafe-approved plumber Paul Williams; Director of WaterSafe Julie Spinks and Gareth Harris, Water Regulations Technical Manager, from Welsh Water.

Topics included:

  • How to find and use your stop tap in an emergency
  • How to avoid preventable plumbing problems
  • Causes of strange tastes and smells in drinking water
  • How plumbers can help their customers remotely
  • Following advice for safe working in homes and businesses
  • Advice for business and office owners who are bringing their buildings back into use and how to avoid the risk of legionella.
  • The importance of using compliant fixtures and fittings.

A final word of advice to property-owners was that plumbing work should always be undertaken by an approved plumber, trained in the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations and Scottish Byelaws to prevent the risk of contamination of drinking water.

The recorded webinar can be viewed at WaterSafe’s YouTube channel, and includes a series of short information films.

Following the success of the webinar WaterSafe is planning on exploring further topics in the future to help both plumbers, householders and business owners. Please contact info@watersafe.org.uk to suggest helpful topics.
