Introducing WaterSafe Register

From 1 April, WaterSafe becomes the WaterSafe Register.

The updated name makes our purpose clearer – to provide an online register of vetted, qualified and insured plumbers you can trust to keep drinking water safe.

What this means for customers and installers:

  • The register at watersafe.org.uk works exactly as before - search by postcode to find a WaterSafe-registered plumber

  • All phone numbers and contact details remain the same

  • Plumbers already on the register are unaffected - their credentials and approvals are unchanged

  • If customers have a certificate or paperwork from a WaterSafe-approved contractor, it remains valid

  • Customers can continue to check contractors’ identities via the approved contractor scheme listed on their ID card: APHC, CIPHE, SNIPEF or WIAPS.

If you’re a WaterSafe-registered installer or partner, you can download our new logo and brand guidelines below.

Check the brand guidelines to find out which version of the logo you need.

FAQs

Q: Why has WaterSafe changed its name?

A: The addition of ‘Register’ makes our purpose clearer — to operate a trusted register of approved plumbing installers. The change was approved by the WaterSafe Board. It brings us in line with how similar bodies are named, such as Gas Safe Register, and makes it easier for consumers and businesses to understand what we do and why being on the register matters.

Q: Does this affect my membership or registration?

A: No. Your registration, your credentials and your obligations under the Water Regulations are completely unaffected. You are still a member of the same Approved Contractor Scheme and all your details on the register remain the same.

Q: Do I need to update my own website or marketing materials?

A: We’d encourage you to update references to ‘WaterSafe’ to ‘WaterSafe Register’ when you get the chance, and to swap in the new logo if you use it. The new logo and brand guidelines are available to download above. If you’re unsure what to change, the key things are:

•       Replace “WaterSafe” with “WaterSafe Register” in any written materials

•       Replace “WaterSafe-approved” with “WaterSafe-registered” when describing yourself

•       Download and use the new logo wherever the old one appears.

Q: How should I describe myself to customers?

A: You can describe yourself as a WaterSafe-registered plumber, or say that you’re on the WaterSafe Register — in the same way a gas engineer might say they’re Gas Safe-registered or on the Gas Safe Register.

Q: Will the website address change?

A: The website remains at watersafe.org.uk for now. If the web address changes in the future, all existing links will automatically redirect so you won’t lose anything.

Q: Will my WaterSafe ID card or van sticker need to be replaced?

A: Your existing ID card and van sticker remain valid. New versions with the updated WaterSafe Register branding will be issued in due course - we’ll be in touch with details when these are ready.

Q: Where can I get the new logo?

A: You can download the new WaterSafe Register logo and brand guidelines using the links above.

Q: I have a question that isn’t answered here — who can I contact?

A: Please use the Contact Us form on the website and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
