The name change is designed to make it clearer to residents that they should choose a registered plumber for any work on their property’s plumbing and encourage more plumbers to become registered.
The WaterSafe Register remains the UK's largest directory of vetted, qualified plumbers and drinking water contractors – all of whom are proven to comply with the Water Regulations, protecting home and business owners from contamination and water waste.
This comes as a survey of 2,000 UK homeowners found that 91 per cent agree that the government should make it compulsory for all plumbers and other installers working on drinking water systems to hold a minimum set of qualifications and be on an official register.
Jonathan Samuel, Managing Director of WaterSafe Register, said: “When something goes wrong with your plumbing, the consequences can be serious - from contaminated drinking water to water damage or wasted bills.”
“The WaterSafe Register exists so that homeowners and businesses can quickly and confidently find a plumber they can trust. Our new name makes that message as clear as possible.”
“The public backs the need for a national register of approved plumbers, so I encourage all consumers to seek a WaterSafe-registered installer for any plumbing work, one who is backed by their local water company.”
“We hope this change supports continued growth in the number of approved plumbers on our register, making it easier than ever for consumers and businesses to find a qualified installer they can trust.”
Searching the WaterSafe Register is quick and easy. Homeowners can visit the WaterSafe Register website - www.watersafe.org.uk - and search by postcode to find an approved installer in their area.
All listed plumbers have been vetted through one of the four Approved Contractor Schemes and are required to keep their qualifications and insurance up to date.
The WaterSafe Register is backed by the drinking water regulators for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and supported by water companies across the UK.
